Cobetter Convemate™ Quaternary Diaphragm Pump is designed for critical applications in the biopharmaceutical industry, available in single-use and multiple-use pump heads according to your applications. The working principle of diaphragm pump ensures gently, safety and reliability transfer of shear-sensitive aqueous solutions and biologic products, reducing shear effect and particle generation. Additionally, Cobetter Quaternary Diaphragm Pump allows for risk-free dry-running, low pulsation, self-priming.

Q: What are the differences in pump head materials?

The diaphragm pump head is available in two options: metal and single-use. The metal pump head is made of 316L stainless steel, is reusable, and supports CIP (Cleaning-in-Place) and SIP (Steam-in-Place). The single-use pump head is made of PP (polypropylene), sterilized by gamma irradiation, and designed for one-time use. Materials for other critical wetted-path components include: diaphragm (TPE), check valves, and O-rings (EPDM).

Q: How often should the pump head diaphragm be replaced?

Recommended service life of the diaphragm: 1,000 hours.

Q: What is the difference between the speed-adjustable pump and the smart pump?

The speed-adjustable pump offers basic functionality, operating solely at a constant speed set by the user. The smart pump can be equipped with pressure and flow sensors. Based on real-time monitored data and user-set parameters, it dynamically adjusts the pump speed to achieve either constant flow or constant pressure control.

Q: How to address significant pulsation or inaccurate flow rate during diaphragm pump operation?

A diaphragm pump relies on the reciprocating motion of a flexible diaphragm to deliver fluid. Its design inherently smooths out pulsation. However, when compressible gas becomes trapped in the pump chamber, this smoothing effect is disrupted, leading to severe fluctuations (pulsation) in the outlet flow and pressure, which in turn causes an incorrect flow rate at the discharge port. If significant pulsation or an inaccurate flow rate is observed during operation, it is highly likely caused by air trapped inside the pump head. In this case, degassing is required. Degassing is typically performed by running the pump at a high speed while intermittently restricting the outlet, using the liquid to ‘push’ the air out of the pump head.

Q: What to do if liquid leakage occurs from the diaphragm pump head?

Liquid leakage from the pump head may be due to the following issues:

(1) Diaphragm Rupture: The diaphragm should be replaced immediately. Diaphragms are typically replaced as a complete set.
(2) Aged or Damaged Pump Head Seal: The corresponding seal(s) should be replaced immediately.
(3) Loose Pump Head Screws: Retighten the screws according to the specified torque.
