Syringe filters are membrane-based devices designed for rapid filtration of liquid samples directly from a syringe. They consist of a membrane housed in a polypropylene plastic device, available in various diameters (4mm to 33mm) and pore sizes (0.1µm to 20µm).
How to Choose a Syringe Filter?
Step 1: Select the Membrane Materials
- Nylon Syringe Filter---Low extractable. Filtration of mixed solvents and solvents, HPCL samples.
- PES Syringe Filter---High flow rate. Filtration of tissue culture media.
- PVDF Syringe Filter---Low protein binding. Compatible with protein solutions and mild organic solutions.
- PTFE Syringe Filter---Maximum chemical resistance. Filtration of mixed solvents and solvents.
- PP Syringe Filter---Broad range of pore sizes. Prefiltration and solvent filtration.
- GF Syringe Filter --- Water quality analysis.
Step 2: Choose the Right Pore Sizes
- 0.1µm: Mycoplasma filtration.
- 0.22µm: Sterile filtration, bacteria removal.
- 0.45µm: Particle removal, HPLC sample prep.
- 0.8–20µm: Prefiltration of viscous samples.
Step 3: Select by Volume
Sample Volume
|
Filter Diameter | Filtration Area | Hold-up Volume |
< 10mL | 13mm | 0.72 cm² | < 25μL |
10mL to 100mL | 25mm | 3.4 cm² | < 100μL |
100mL to 200mL | 33mm | 4.5 cm² | < 125μL |
Cobetter Syringe Filters are Available in:
1. Color-coded Robust Syringe Filters for Easy Identification
- Nylon syringe filters --- Green
- PES syringe filters --- Yellow
- PTFE syringe filters --- Red
- PVDF syringe filters --- Blue
- PP and GF syringe filters --- White
2. HPLC-certified Syringe Filters(White Premium)
Cobetter white Hydrophilic PTFE syringe filters are HPLC-certified for low levels of UV-absorbing extractable.
3. Sterile Syringe Filters
Cobetter sterile syringe filters are ideal for sterile filtration of cell culture media with a high flow rate and low protein adsorption.
How to sterilize syringe filters?
Autoclaving
Only autoclavable syringe filters can be autoclaved. They can withstand autoclaving at 121°C (up to a maximum of 130°C) for 30 minutes, and this process can be repeated up to 20 times. However, we recommend using it only once for optimal performance after autoclaving.
Gamma Irradiation
Gamma irradiation involves exposing the filters to high-energy gamma rays, which can kill microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi. This method is typically used for large-scale sterilization in a relatively short time. Cobetter sterile syringe filters are gamma irradiated and individually packed.
Additionally, be sure to handle the filters with clean gloves or use it in the clean bench to avoid introducing contaminants while using.
